I Refuse To Die · by Gary Crockett

Many years ago there were sugar cane fields everywhere in Queensland Australia. It was a huge industry. Farmers would burn off the sugar cane fields to ready for harvest. The fires were spectacular with flames shooting up to 30 feet in the air. Rats lizards and snakes would be numerous emerging from the sugar cane to escape the fire. The fields were usually burnt at sunset and the smoke from the fires would make for spectacular vivid red sunsets. We still have cane fields but they are disappearing.
